Signs your slide-out mechanism needs attention
The usual complaints are a room that won't extend or retract, one that runs crooked, or one that grinds or clicks while it moves. Sometimes the motor runs and the room doesn't. On a Schwintek system you may also see error codes on the controller, or LEDs that don't light at all.
If the room is stuck partway, don't force it. A slide that is already binding can be hurt further by muscle, and the cause is usually something we can find with a meter.
What we check on a Schwintek system
We start with the controller's LEDs and error codes, because they tell us whether we're chasing an electrical fault or a mechanical one. If the LEDs stay dark, we check for 12 volts at the controller and at the switch. No power there means we work backward through the circuit until we find where it drops out.
With power at the controller, we go to the motor-harness connections and inspect the exposed wiring for pinching or damage. When nothing shows up by eye, we use a test harness or ohm-test the harness to find the break.
The actuator and the front mounting drive bracket get inspected too, since they carry the load of moving the room.

The repair and what drives the price
Most jobs come down to wiring, an actuator, or the track. Slide track alignment or rail straightening runs $245 to $485.
If the room is stuck out and we need to bring it in before we can test anything, a through-frame actuator has a manual override that we run with a 3/4-inch socket and ratchet. That adds time to the job, and we tell you so before we go further. How long the whole repair takes depends on what we find, and we can give you a firm timeline once we're into it.
Winter weather and permits in Harlingen
Harlingen gets only occasional light winter freezes, so a slide that quits in January gets the same diagnosis as one that quits in July: LEDs, voltage, harness, actuator, track.
Most slide repairs are wiring, actuator or track work. If a job turns into regulated structural repair, the city requires a permit, and contractors doing permitted work must be licensed and registered with Harlingen. We'll tell you up front if your repair lands on that side of the line.
Getting Started Is Simple
Broken down, the work covers:
- For a Schwintek system, check controller LEDs and error codes, then verify 12 V at the controller and switch when the LEDs do not light (Lippert troubleshooting manual: (Schwintek)%20Troubleshooting%20Manual.pdf).
- Inspect motor-harness connections and exposed wiring for pinching or damage; use a test harness or ohm-test the harness if needed (Lippert troubleshooting manual: (Schwintek)%20Troubleshooting%20Manual.pdf).
Typical Harlingen Pricing
