How we price a repair
A converter that won't charge your batteries might need a new unit or just a cleaned-up connection. A leaking skylight might need fresh sealant, or the roof membrane under it might need repair first. Those are different jobs at different prices, which is why we want to see the rig before we commit to a figure.
For a converter swap, a typical range is $400 to $700, depending on the unit your RV takes. Skylight removal and replacement usually lands between $300 and $500. If we can repair something instead of replacing it, we say so and explain the price difference so you can choose.
Our written quote covers what we found, what we're going to do, the parts and materials, and the labor. If we see something that needs attention but isn't part of the quote, we list it separately so you know what could come up next. If we can't tell what's wrong without opening something up, we give you a range first and call you before we go past it.
Permits and licensing
Harlingen's currently adopted residential code is the 2024 International Residential Code for one- and two-family dwellings. The city's permit guide requires permits for regulated building or structural repairs and for regulated electrical, gas, mechanical and plumbing work. Contractors doing permitted work must be licensed and registered with the city.
If a job we quote falls into that regulated work, we say so on the quote and talk through the permit before you decide to go ahead, so it doesn't stall the job halfway through.

Roof work: repair first, then sealant
If the roof membrane is damaged, we repair it using the RV manufacturer's procedure before any new sealant goes on. Then we clean the roof surfaces with SikaSense-3502/11 and let them dry for 5 to 10 minutes before applying Sikaflex-715. We don't shorten that wait. Sealant over a dirty or damp surface won't hold, and the leak comes back.
Harlingen only gets occasional light winter freezes, but the mid-February freeze ran several days. If your rig sat through one, expect us to look closely at roof seams and sealant bonds before we blame something else for a new leak.
Refrigerator that won't cool
Before we condemn the cooling unit on an absorption refrigerator, we check that the fridge is level and that its ventilation is clear. An unlevel fridge or a blocked vent can mimic a failed unit, and the cooling unit is the expensive part to be wrong about. On the LP-gas side, we put an LP-gas manometer on the line to check the gas pressure the refrigerator is getting. That tells us whether the problem is the fridge or the supply to it, and it keeps you from paying for a new unit you don't need.
